SITE WALKS NEPONSET RIVER TRAIL EXTENSION
Thurs, July 22, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
North of the River Tour
Meet at Foley Senior Residences, 249 River Street, Mattapan, at the parking lot to the right of the entrance drive.

Mon, July 26, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
South of the River Tour
Meet at Riverway Plaza, 90 River St., Mattapan, at the parking lot
off Central Ave., next to the entrance of Rite Aid Pharmacy.


At the site walks, DCR will discuss, respond to questions, and solicit
public input on optional routes for a multi-use pathway connection
between the Lower Neponset River Trail and the Neponset
Esplanade, between Central Avenue in Milton and Blue Hill Avenue
in Boston.

Spencer DeShields
Executive Director

Spencer DeShieldsSpencer DeShields has been the Executive Director for the Mattapan CDC since January 2006 and is a results-oriented business development and marketing executive. He has broad business development, executive partnering, fundraising, marketing, sales, strategic planning, materials acquisitions, logistics, and general management experience. He was a Senior Executive Director for Business Development at Texas Instruments for over 9 years.

For 20-plus years, he held responsibility for global and domestic business development, communications, marketing and new partnerships for an international start-up and Digital Equipment/ Compaq-HP. In those companies, he globally developed new business integration, vendor relationships, product and service contracts, requirements agreements & partnerships, business to business & supply chain management, and strategic partnering initiatives in the U.S. and internationally.  During his entire career he has volunteered development support to non-profit organizations utilizing the expertise from the above mentioned experiences.

Mr. DeShields’ experience has been associated with major non-profit community organizations, college preparatory institutions and major universities.  He has successfully developed capital campaigns, fundraising strategies and business development initiatives.  He received his BS degree from Boston College and MBA from Babson College.

Philip E. Brown
Director of Real Estate Development

Phil BrownPhilip E. Brown has been the Director of Real Estate Development for Mattapan CDC since 2008.  In that capacity, he directs the activities of the Real Estate Development Department including managing all phases of real estate development projects. He is responsible to develop and maintain a pipeline of real estate projects, including search new deals, site assessments, feasibility analysis, assembling the development team, completion of acquisition and sales, obtaining financing, managing construction, and project financial management. He also supervises Mattapan CDC’s existing portfolio of 119 affordable rental housing units.

Prior to joining Mattapan CDC, Mr. Brown was Manager of the Senior Vacant Unit Initiative (SVUI) at Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation.  Before Nuestra, Mr. Brown served as Senior Lending Officer for GMAC Mortgage in their Quincy office. 

Mr. Brown brings over 20 years banking and real estate experience, including positions as Vice President Mortgage Origination for a local community bank and Vice President Strategic Planning and Banking Officer for a global financial services firm.  As a private developer, Mr. Brown has acquired, renovated, and resold the condominium project located at 35 Elmore St, Boston.

Mr. Brown earned an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS in Management from Fisk University.  Mr. Brown has served on the boards of several organizations, including the Newton History Museum, the United Negro College Fund, ArtsBoston, MSPCC, and the Sportsmen’s Club of Greater Boston.

Gail Granville Gail Granville has been with Mattapan CDC since 2005. As Site Organizer, she provides administrative support and helps oversee office operation in addition to grant research and writing. Gail has many years of experience working in the non-profit sector.

 

 

Conor Pewarski
Development Associate

Conor Pewarski has been with Mattapan CDC since 2009. As Development Associate, he works with the Director of Strategic Development on developing programs and with the Director of Real Estate Development on developing affordable housing. In addition, Conor directs Mattapan CDC's small business technical assistance program. Prior to joining Mattapan CDC, Conor owned and operated a small business in Chicago. He received his BA degree in Economics from Yale University.

Michele Scott
Director of Community Organizing

Michele Scott Mattapan CDCMichele Scott has been at Mattapan CDC since 2007. As Director of Community Organizing, Michele has worked tirelessly to build coalitions with other Mattapan neighborhood organizations. Michele has cemented Mattapan CDC's role as a convener in the community, organizing a number of meetings, workshops, and breakfasts over the past three years. As a member of the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition, Michele is the director of the weekly Farmers Market in Mattapan Square. Prior to joining Mattapan CDC, Michele worked for Habitat Management in Boston. For more information on Mattapan CDC's Community projects, please see our Community page.

Michelle Ward
Office Manager

Michelle Ward Mattapan CDC Michelle Ward has been with Mattapan CDC since 1999. As Office Manager, she works closely with Mattapan CDC's Executive Director and Board of Directors and serves as a liason to the Mattapan community. Michelle helps with the preparation of budgets and financial reports, as well as with facilitating community events and writing grants. Prior to joining Mattapan CDC, Michelle worked for fifteen years at Putnam Investments as an administrative and community relations specialist.
